8th Grade A Team
8th Grade A Team has improved leaps and bounds, and all of their hard work has paid off, by defeating Uvalde in a redemption game 23-19! Our student athletes have been working hard to improve their press and it showed last night with a record high 22 steals. We have also improved our record for rebounds with 43 rebounds. All 11 players contributed to this win by knowing their role and being coachable throughout the game. Defensively we played our best game of the year by anticipating the next pass and trusting our teammates to be there to stop fast breaks. These girls gave 100% ALL FOUR QUARTERS! As a coach I am so proud of how well they played as a team, by passing the ball quickly on a fast break and out hustling our opponent. The Lady Bulldogs reigned over Uvalde 24 to 15. These ladies stepped up their defensive game and did not allow Uvalde to score with their press. The Lady Dogs used their defense to frustrate the lobos ball handler to generate more attempts offensively after many steals and rebounds leading to fast breaks. Brooke Montelongo led the ladies with 8 points, 12 rebounds, 1 assist and 3 steals. Gracen Spruell added 4 points and 2 steals. Gabrielle Colony had 2 points, 2 rebounds and 3 steals. Blu Rollo contributed 4 points and added 7 steals, 2 assists, 2 blocks and 1 rebound to the books. Rehnahta Gomez added 2 points with 1 steal, rebound and block each. Sienna Collazo came out and dominated the boards with her 8 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 assist and 1 point. Kassidy Sizemore had a strong defensive game while putting up 3 blocks and forcing the Lady Lobos to turnover the ball. Mackenzie Clay and Aaliyah Khan showed their awesome defense skills with 2 rebounds and 2 steals each with Khan also adding 2 points. Maddie Arriola was aggressive, forcing turnovers and pushing 5 steals and putting up 1 point. This week we really worked on staying in tune with each other and working as ONE. I am so proud of each of the young ladies on this victory and we look forward to using this next week when we take on the Carrizo Springs Lady Cats next Thursday!
