Girls Basketball Recap vs. Carrizo Springs on 1/25/24

8th Grade A basketball team traveled to Carrizo Spring for their last away game of the season. It was a tough, hard fought match the entire game. I can see the improvement from game to game and I am excited to see this group of girls play in high school. First round of district we lost 17-40, second time around we lost 22-32!  Defensively we are starting to gain confidence and work together with our team. Our press is a big factor with getting stops against the other team. To finish out the season our goal will be to get confident at taking good shots. We will play our last game of the year next Thursday against Del Rio. The Lady Bulldog 8th grade B team defeated Carrizo Springs 13 to 8.  The Bulldogs struggled to get their offense going and were trailing the Wildcats 2 to 0 at the end of the first half.  Luckily, their strong defensive effort kept them in the game.  In the second half, Bandera finally found an offensive rhythm, scoring all 13 of their points.  Jessa Haws and Maddison Frazee led the Lady Bulldogs in steals, and Karlee Hamilton secured 5 rebounds.  The 8th grade B team improved their overall record to 7 wins and 2 losses this season.

The 7th grade girls A team lost to Carrizo Springs 42-9.  The Lady Dogs had a rough first half, trailing the Lady Cats by 32 points at the end of the first half, but the Bulldogs bounced back, changing up their defense in the second half.  Although we could not seem to get past their press, the heart and fight within these ladies is always a joy to be a part of. These young athletes have a love for the game and will always learn and grow from the adversity they may face. Rehnahta Gomez had 3 rebounds, 1 steal, 3 blocks and 3 points. Brooke Montelongo led in rebounds with 9, adding 2 steals, 1 block and 2 points. Sienna Collazo had 4 rebounds and 1 steal. Aaliyah Khan had 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals and 2 points. Gabrielle Colony put up 4 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 block. Makensie Clay had 1 rebound and 1 steal. Kassidy Sizemore contributed 1 rebound and 1 block. Maddie Arriola added 3 rebounds to the books. Blu Rollo had 1 rebound, 1 steal and 1 block. We will close out our season next Thursday, February 1 against Del Rio here in Bandera.

7B Girls Basketball played against Carrizo Springs Thursday night winning the game 6-5. The team raced against the running clock and played a great basketball game. Ball movement was a key part of the team's win with Lilian Cabrera, Ava Thompson, and Bentley O'Donnal all scoring 2 points. The team worked hard on their press defense and it showed on the court which was critical to the game.The girls stand at a 4-5 record and have one more game against Del Rio next Thursday February 1st.
