8th grade A team had a tremendous season of grit, hustle and solid teamwork. Since the first game each and every single one of these girls has improved so much and I am a super proud coach. We ended the night losing 24-32, but we were down by twenty points going into the 4th. Our girls perfected their press and were communicating with their teammates to change it up as they were playing, and they scored 6 points in the last minute of the game by steals from the press. I have never had a group of girls work harder than these did all season. They are beginning to be confident with the ball, drive the lane and shoot to draw a foul. I am extremely excited to watch these girls grow even more in high school. 8th Grade B Team
The Lady Bulldog 8th grade B team lost to Del Rio 34 to 13. Jessa Haws led the Bulldogs in scoring with 8 points. Jada Bergfeld made several steals and hustled on defense. Despite the loss, all of the young ladies gave tremendous effort from beginning to end. The 8th grade B team had a successful basketball season. Their overall record was 7 wins and 3 losses.
7th Grade A Team
The 7th grade A team lost to Del Rio 8 to 40. Despite the loss, the Lady Dogs showed tremendous improvement compared to previous games. The Lady Bulldogs moved the ball well offensively, but open shots wouldn’t fall. Despite this loss and a season record of 3-7, I couldn't be more proud of these ladies. They worked hard each week and grew their love of the game. Coaching staff is excited to build on this group and see what they do as 8th graders next year. Rehnahta Gomez had 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals. Brooke Montelongo racked up 7 rebounds, 5 steals and 2 points. Sienna Collazo added 4 rebounds and 2 steals. Aaliyah Khan had a strong defensive game forcing the Queens to turn over the ball. Ava Thompson had 2 rebounds and 2 steals. Gabrielle Colony had 1 rebound and 1 steal. Makensie Clay contributed 1 rebound, 1 assist and 1 steal. Kassidy Sizemore and Byrlee Phillips each added 2 rebounds to the books. Maddie Arriola had 4 rebounds, 1 steal and 2 points. Blu Rollo had 3 steals, 1 block and 4 points.
7th Grade B Team
7B Girls Basketball played their final game of the season against Del Rio last night losing the game 41-19. Del Rio came out strong in the first quarter and forced the Bulldogs to make adjustments on offense and defence. After these changes, the team played their best game of the season. The season ended with a 4-6 record. Defense was strong as the girls caused a lot of turnovers for Del Rio. Bentley O'Donnnal, Jazmine Rhodes, and Aubrey Freeman all recorded 3 steals in the game. Bentley and Jazmine also had 4 rebounds each. Offense picked up in the second quarter with Makayla Clay hitting a much needed 3 pointer. Jazmine Rhodes and Lilian Cabrera scored 2 points. Cealy Billings, Bentley O'Donnal, and Grace Walker all scored 4 points each. With the season coming to an end, the girls have all shown tremendous growth at the game of basketball. They will be exciting players to watch for their next step in 8th grade.
